Causes of Xbox e74 problem and steps you can take to fix it

Xbox 360 e74 error is a very common problem on Xbox consoles, with similar roots to the now infamous red ring of death problem. You can fix your console yourself and be gaming again in a matter of a couple of hours.

The problem is caused by a problem with the scaler (ANA or HANA) chips located next to the graphics processor inside your Xbox 360. It is believed that the error with the scaler video chip that causes the e74 error on your Xbox 360 is caused by overheating. Same causes other errors such as the no video problem, as well as red lights in the power ring of an Xbox console.

Steps you need to take:

1. Go to your Xbox 360 console and then remove the AV cable. Blow any dust out of it, then re-insert it snugly back into the console until a clicking is heard. Switch on your console again and see if the problem has been fixed.

2. Borrow another AV cable and using this one in your Xbox 360. See if it works for you.

3.If after the replacement and still did not work, then you will have to repair the scaler chip and graphics processor inside your Xbox in order to fix the e74 problem. You will need an Xbox 360 repair guide, which will contain the video instruction files you need to to fix your console properly. You cannot fix the e74 yourself without this.

How To Remove A Stuck Game From Xbox 360

If any game is stuck inside your Xbox 360 and you want to remove it. There is a way to remove it manually. First unplug the power for a few minutes to let your Xbox reset. Re-attach the power cord and see if you can now eject your DVD.
If it did not work turn the power off and unplug it. Remove the face plate on you Xbox console. You will need a thick paper clip or something similar. Then, straighten one end of it out. With the face plate removed you will see two small holes right underneath the DVD player and one hole at the right side.
For the fact that Xbox uses 3 different DVD drives the procedure will vary. If you have a Samsung or Toshiba drive use the small hole on the right. It Should be right underneath the X on the DVD drive faceplate. Push your straightened paper clip in the hole until you feel it hit the gear. The gear needs to be spun from left to right. Poke around until you find it then push in gently until you feel it move. You will see the tray start to move out.
For those that are using Hitatchi DVD drives go for the first hole on the left. Beng DVD drives will use the middle hole. This requires the most pressure to get the gear to turn. You will see the tray start to move.
Be very careful! Do not push too hard in case you are missing the correct spot. Once the tray starts to eject you can pull on it slightly to help it open. You should now be able to remove your Game. Then you are DONE!
Do you know why your game get stuck in the first place? It Could result from different reasons. You may have to replace your DVD drive if you are having loading problems. Click Here get the complete guide.

Alright, the Scotch tap is there to help you when your putting the screws back though the heatsink, so you can get the nuts on the backside of them, without doing it one at a time.
You can get the thermal paste at any computer store and you obviously know where to get the rest of the stuff.
As far as the drilling goes, your don't necessarily need to drill wholes, but some people prefer it, to tighten the heatsink up that much more by connecting it to the actual shell of the console.
So that's it, like I said, if I'm missing anything, let me know, if you have any question please leave a comment.
Also, keep in mind, that it's strongly recommended you don't try the Xclamp fix by yourself, you should really get the Xbox 360 Red Light Fix guide to walk you through everything, plus they have an awesome troubleshooting section that lets you pin point the exact problem and what you need to do to fix it, sometimes you don't even need to take your console apart and I should also let you know that, the X clamp fix is only one alternative out of many options.
